Amadeus Partnerships with LA Hotels, AirAsia Produce Results

September 10, 2009 By: George Dooley

LAHotels, S.A. has selected Amadeus as its technology partner to deliver a Property Management System (PMS) tailored for multiproperties to maximize its room inventory and offer a personalized service across all of its properties.

Established in 2007, LAHotels is the third largest hotel company in Brazil, with 27 hotels in operation to date – most of them branded as Tulip Inn and Golden Tulip Hotels. The rollout to the initial set of hotels is set to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009.

“As we continue to expand, we plan to bring our new properties onto the Amadeus platform as well – both in Brazil and elsewhere in Latin America,” said Peter van Voorst Vader, CEO of LAHotels.

Amadeus multiproperty PMS provides a single view of availability across properties, as well as comprehensive insights into individual guest preferences, enabling hotel staff to provide personalized experience to their guests and improve yield management.

“Despite the current challenging economic times, Brazil is well poised for tourism growth, and we are looking forward to nurturing and growing our partnership with LAHotels,” said Wolfgang Emperger, director international sales, Amadeus Hospitality.

The multiproperty installation will be hosted through LAHotels’ data center in Sao Paulo and will include a bundle of features available through Amadeus Hotel PMS, including front office, conference management, sales & marketing, and interfaces for local third-party systems. The solution will be available in Brazilian Portuguese.

Amadeus Boosts AirAsia’s Global Expansion

For the first time, Amadeus-subscribing travel agencies worldwide can book flights on AirAsia and all its subsidiaries – Indonesia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia and its long-haul low-fare affiliate, AirAsia X – in the same way as a full-service carrier.  AirAsia is the leading and largest low-cost carrier in Asia and was recognized as the World’s Best Low Cost Airline by Skytrax this year. Over 102,200 travel agencies worldwide may now book flights on AirAsia

This new advancement is possible through Amadeus’ Ticketless Access, a breakthrough solution that allows the real-time fare and flight information from a low cost carrier (LCC) to be displayed alongside that of full-service airlines on a travel agent’s Amadeus screen. Developed by Amadeus in response to market demand from LCCs, travelers and travel agents, this solution helps LCCs to target new customer segments (such as corporate travel and sales in global markets), while travel agents can offer their customers better service and a wider range of flight options.

More than 102,200 travel agencies worldwide using the Amadeus Global Distribution System (GDS) for reservations will now be able to book flights for travelers on AirAsia and all its subsidiaries – Indonesia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia and its long-haul low-fare affiliate, AirAsia X. This has been achieved through the implementation of a unique Amadeus technology solution for low-cost ‘ticketless’ airlines, named Amadeus Ticketless Access. This technology enables travel agents to find flight options to suit a broader range of needs, especially for travelers who are particularly budget-conscious.

“Our growth strategy is to aggressively expand AirAsia footprint globally through a broader channel distribution, making our amazing low fares inventory more accessible," said Kathleen Tan, regional head of commercial, AirAsia Group said. "This collaboration with Amadeus will enable us to tap into a broader mix of new market segment of international customers to complement our commercial strategy, especially for AirAsia X as we make long haul travel more affordable.  Since the implementation of this agreement, we have seen positive interest from overseas markets, in particular Europe. Ultimately, we hope the new segment offered through Amadeus will help us to serve a new market segment through the travel community to complement our channel marketing strategy and support our continued expansion plans worldwide.”

“This is an important milestone not only for AirAsia, but also for the Asia Pacific travel industry as a whole," said  David Brett, president, Amadeus Asia Pacific. "Amadeus is very proud to be pioneering this solution in Asia Pacific with AirAsia, and we hope its success will support their growth and rapid expansion globally. Amadeus’ technology can support this revolutionary change, bringing more flight options to travel agency customers and giving AirAsia’s existing passengers more flexibility and choice in the way they book and pay for tickets. This may be of particular interest to business travelers who are looking for more economical options, especially during today’s economic climate.”
