Due to Economy, Some Designers Won’t Show at Fashion Week Event in Bryant Park

Economy troubles are hitting every industry. Not to be excluded, designers are still deciding whether or not to participate in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York’s Bryant Park. Fashion Week kicks off February 13. According to an article by Adrianne Pasquarelli in Crain’s New York Business, many designers have already opted out of the runway shows.

Also according to the article, due to the high costs associated with a runway show and slowing apparel sales, New York designers are struggling to find the best way to present their fall collections come February.

Some designers who have dropped out of the event include Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang. Other designers are seeking alternative ways of showing their apparel, such as renting space in galleries or events venues and letting people come and go throughout the day.
