Fires Damage Southern Europe

Fires continued to ravage southern Europe through the weekend, damaging forests in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece and Spain's Canary Islands. Though southern Europe is currently experiencing a severe heat wave, police have arrested 20 people on suspicion of starting the fires, the AFP reported. On Sunday, the region around Chepelare voiced concerns of the fire spreading to the 10th century monastery of Rila, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the paper added.
