Generali Global Assistance Launches Streamlined Travel Insurance

Generali Global Assistance has launched three new travel insurance plans with the aim of making the coverage easier to comprehend for consumers and travel agents.

Were trying to eliminate confusion regarding travel insurance, Chris Carnicelli, CEO of Generali Global Assistance, tells Travel Agent. Although I see lots of compliments about what we do as a company and industry, I also see a lot of confusion.

The new plans, named Standard, Preferred, and Premium, were developed based on feedback from consumers. All three include access to Generalis network of medical providers, trip cancellation coverage that also includes the sickness or injury of family members that are not traveling, a medical expense service, identity theft resolution services, virtual doctor services and concierge services.

We made some of the features more robust, and weve added a couple of features that were not in previous plans, says Carnicelli.

Notable additions include a No Out-of-Pocket Medical Expenses feature that can arrange a travelers appointment and pay up front for acute treatments of up to $1,000 if they get sick or injured while traveling. Additionally, the company has added features to the Preferred and Premium plans aimed at sports travelers, including coverage for the loss, theft, damage or delay of sporting equipment, such as ski or golf gear. The Premium plan also includes rental car damage coverage and optional Trip Cancellation for Any Reason coverage. Additionally, coverage for pre-existing conditions is available if the plan is purchased prior to, or within 24 hours, of final trip payment as long as other requirements are met.

Carnicelli also says that the company is using the new plans to educate consumers on the benefits of travel insurance. It is also launching a new consumer website to help travelers research, buy and service travel insurance.

The new products will also be available and commissionable through travel agents, Carnicelli says, and the company plans to provide all of its travel partners with clear explanations of the new coverage.
