"Transforming Economies" and "Removing Barriers Towards Global Integration through Travel & Tourism" are two of the main themes of the Global Travel and Tourism Summit, which is being organized under the patronage of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, and by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

The two-day event will take place in Florianópolis, the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, from May 15-16. As the global business leaders' forum, comprising the presidents and chief executives of some of the foremost 100 travel and tourism companies around the world, WTTC's main mission is to promote the economic importance of the sector, which generates 9 percent of global GDP and employs as many as 220 million people worldwide.

"This year's Global Travel & Tourism Summit in Brazil offers a timely opportunity for leaders from all sectors of travel and tourism and related industries to meet together in an ideal setting to discuss the challenges facing the industry and come up with innovative solutions," Jean-Claude Baumgarten, WTTC's president and CEO told the Brazilian media and industry leaders at a press conference to launch the Summit program in São Paulo.

There will be more than 50 speakers and panelists from all four corners of the globe who are participating the two-day Summit.
