Mazatlán to Honor Travel Partners With Festival

Mazatlán will hold its 13th annual Gran Fiesta Amigos, November 6-9, a tribute to travel partners, including wholesalers, tour operators, airlines and incentive companies, for their support in promoting Mazatlán as a destination.

This year's fiesta kicks off with a cocktail reception and dinner and continues with a gala dinner at the Inn at Mazatlán and performances by Delfos Contemporanean, an award-winning contemporary dance company.

Additionally, there will be tee times at El Cid Golf & Country Club and Estrella Del Mar. The El Cid boasts an 18-hole championship course and nine holes designed by Lee Travino. Estrella del Mar has a Robert Trent Jones-designed course on picturesque Stone Island not far from Old Mazatlán.

"During this past year, growth in international passenger traffic at the Mazatlán airport was among the highest in Mexico,” says Carlos Berdegué, vice president, Mazatlán Hotel Association and Tourism Board. “Thanks to the support of our industry friends, Mazatlán has become one of Mexico's top destinations."

Earlier this month, Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte announced that total passenger traffic at its 13 airports reached 1.1 million in September 2007, an increase of 23.8 percent compared to the same month of 2006.

During the Fiesta Amigos gala dinner, Mazatlán will present the Golden Deer Awards to airlines and tour operators for their contributions to Mazatlán's growing popularity. This year's winners are:

US tour operator: Pleasant Holidays
US airline: Frontier Airlines
Online: Expedia
Mexican tour operator: Best Day Tours
