Montana Ski Developer Scales Down Proposal

April 26, 2006 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

According to a report this week in Ski Area Management (SAM), a resort developer who had been seeking to develop an 11,000-acre ski resort across Montana's Bitterroot and Lolo National Forest areas scaled down his proposal after the National Forest Service rejected the larger plan. According to SAM, developer Tom Maclay's plan still calls for a winter resort just outside of Missoula, MT, with 5,000 vertical feet of skiing and riding and a base area of 2,200 residences and hotel rooms. The NFS rejected Maclay's initial proposal last year because the plan was not compatible with the Service's forest management strategies. (FF)
