Aspen/Snowmass Announces Capital Improvements for Next Season

May 2, 2006 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

Aspen Skiing Company on Tuesday announced a number of capital improvements scheduled for the 2006-07 that total more than $23 million. The company's four ski areas all will receive upgrades, the company announced. Arguably the most significant of the upgrades will be at Snowmass, where a new Elk Camp Gondola will have eight-passenger cabins designed to transport guests from the base to its summit in 7.5 minutes. In addition, improvements are planned for the ski area's Coney Terrain Park. On Aspen Mountain, the Silver Queen Gondola will be fitted with new cabins in spring 2006 that will provide guests with more room on the 14-minute ride to the summit. The Aspen Highlands ski area will see an additional 20 to 30 acres of new terrain in the extreme-skiing areas accessed by the new Deep Temerity lift, which itself opened in 2005. And the company announced that the ESPN Winter X Games 11 will return to the Buttermilk ski area for a sixth consecutive year. The games will take place Jan. 25-28, 2007. (FF)
