First New Hampshire Ski Resort Opens for 2010-11 SeasonNovember 24, 2010 By: Kirk Cassels
Bretton Woods, part of the Omni Mount Washington Resort, has officially opened for the skiing and snowboarding season, offering the first skiing in the state of New Hampshire for the 2010-11 season. With the opening comes several upgrades as well.
Skiers and snowboarders find the Bretton Woods ski area is bigger than ever with the recent addition of 30 gladed acres on Mt. Stickney. The first development in a long-awaited expansion of Mt. Stickney, the new glades offer a classic New England "back-country experience," with a long traverse off the "Two Miles Home" ski trail. The glades access a variety of terrain riddled with secret powder stashes, sharp tree chutes and the classic manicured glade skiing. With the 30 additional acres, the Bretton Woods ski area now adds up to 464 skiable acres, with 102 trails and glades dressed with 200+ inches of annual snowfall on average.
Meanwhiel, theOmni Mount Washington Hotel is heading into winter fresh from the latest phase of a comprehensive, $60 million expansion and renovation. All guest rooms, suites and corridors have been spruced up with new color schemes, wall coverings and artwork. Several casual dining venues have been re-conceived, including The Cave – an original Prohibition Era speakeasy, now dressed up in a classic English style – and Stickneys, a newly designed pub-style steakhouse appealing to the American sportsman in all of us. Family-style diners will enjoy Fabyan's Station set in a former train station arrayed with vintage railroad art and faux-train track flooring. The 1,400-square-foot Family Suite, complete with a living room, fireplace and two separate children's rooms, was also renovated.
The mountain is offering skiing and riding on five trails with three lifts running, on freshly groomed man-made loose granular snow. Some terrain park elements have been set up as well for early-season jibbing. The Learning Center Quad is complimentary for all ages Monday-Friday during non-holiday periods, and $15 weekends and holidays.
Snowmaking will continue and more trails and lifts are planned to open as conditions allow, and ticket prices will be adjusted accordingly. Also open this weekend are the food court, rental shop, ski school for private lessons (based on availability and current conditions), and TreeTop Sports with clothing and accessories. Season passes also remain on sale at a reduced rate if purchased before November 30, and are available for pick up seven days a week.
Special ski and stay packages are now available, including the Stay Here, Ski Free package starting at just $99 per person per night, based on double occupancy, which includes lodging at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel or Bretton Arms Inn with lift tickets for skiing and riding at Bretton Woods.
