On Location: Spring Skiing Upstate

March 27, 2009 By: Kirk Cassels

Some of the large poles that support the Summit Quad chairlift at Whiteface Mountain are labeled "towers," and they carry signs that read "You are now 90 feet above the summit at Okemo," or similar statements citing Killington, Stratton, Mad River Glen, and Stowe in Vermont, and even Tremblant in Quebec.

Home to downhill skiing competitions of the Olympics in 1980 and 1932, the mountain's proximity to Lake Placid is one of many facets that make the region a destination, not a tourist stop. Travel Agent took a trip up the mountain this afternoon during our stay this weekend at The WhitefaceLodge. Check out our ascension of the mountain in the video below, as well as a few snapshots of the mountain.
