North Lake Tahoe Hosts 10-day SnowFest

North Lake Tahoe will host its 31st annual 10-day SnowFest from March 2-11, 2012.

The North Lake Tahoe Resort Association expects thousands of attendees, with the majority of events free to spectators. New events this year include the Snow Fiesta in Kings Beach with mariachi bands, Mexican food and piñatas; the Snow What Building Contest, where contestants compete with their snow art building skills; the Truckee River Winery Ice Carving Extravaganza, which features ice sculptures and games; and a Paws and Claws Pub Crawls starting in Incline Village and ending in Crystal Bay.

Annual events include opening night ceremonies, laser show, torchlight parade and fireworks at Squaw Valley USA, which brought on medalist and former alpine ski racer Daron Rahlves. Rahlves and other Olympians will kick off SnowFest and the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour, at the opening night ceremonies.

Also on the docket are polar bear swims, food eating contests, human bowling, cross country skiing races and winners of the tour race from March 3-4 will take home a cash prize.
