Abercrombie & Kent has announced the new Wonders of Japan cruise from May 13 to 26, 2016, onboard the all-balcony Le Soléal.
The itinerary will explore Japan's less-frequented coastal areas, including an active exploration of Takahashi to visit Matsuyama Castle and the Kibitsu Shrine or a visit to the Korakuen Gardens and Kurashiki historical district. The Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, the landscapes of the Izumu Plain and Matsue, the samurai and geisha houses in Kanazawa and a private performance by the Kodo Taiko Drummers in Sado-ga-shima will also be on the itinerary. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike through Kakusenkie Gorge and enjoy an onsen (hot springs) experience in the Yamanaka onsen district.
A&K has brought in local experts on the voyage. Guests will be able to learn about the natural world from author and Japan Times columnist Mark Brazil; contemporary Japanese culture from native literature expert Mayumi Kanamura-Brazil; hands-on photography instruction with Richard Harker; or Asian architecture and garden design with author and Associate Professor Emeritus Dr. Lee Makela.
Le Soléal guest quarters offer a choice of bedding configurations, including two-room, two-bath suites. Common areas, including a theater, two lounges and a small library are available for casual conversation. Other amenities include a full-service salon, steam room, spa and fitness center.
This marks the fourth cruise around the islands of Japan that A&K as offered since 2008. It will be the first featuring the new ‘Le Soléal,’ sister ship to ‘Le Boreal,’ which A&K uses in Antarctica and the Arctic.
A&K cruises include pre- and post-cruise hotel stays and sightseeing, on-board lectures, shore excursions, equipment, most drinks and crew and staff gratuities. The company guarantees a guide-to-guest ratio of one to 12.
