10th UNESCO World Heritage Site Named in Korea

August 11, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger

Korea hit a cultural landmark this week with the naming of its 10th UNESCO World Heritage Site.

'Historic Villages of Korea: Hahoe and Yangdong' were founded around the 14th century, and are considered to be two representative historic clan villages in the Republic of Korea. Their historic locations were chosen to provide both physical and spiritual nourishment from their surrounding landscapes. At the site, visitors will find residences of the head families, timber-framed houses of other clan members, pavilion, study halls and clusters of one-story mud-walled houses.
