Asia is ripe with UNESCO sites and now nine more have been added in Korea. Nine geological attractions in Jeju island have been added to the list of world geoparks.
These new sites include Mount Halla, Manjang Cave and Seongsan Sunrise Peak, Seogwipo Formation, Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, Jungmun Daepo Columnar-Jointed Lava, the lava dome at Mount Sanbang, the Yongmeori tuff ring and the Suweol Peak tuff ring.
Korea is already home to UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites as well as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. With the addition of these world geoparks, Jeju is the only place in the world with three UNESCO certifications.
