The new Ngellil Nature Island Resort has opened in the South Pacific island of Palau, Micronesia. The natural eco-resort is the brainstorm of Palau Plantation Resort’s Saburo Ishige, who designed a similar resort on the more populous destination in Palau’s capital, Koror.
The Ngellil Nature Island Resort is positioning itself as a one-of-a-kind, eight room property that is only accessible by boat transfer and is ideal for couples or those that want to truly get away from it all. The full-service property features accommodations made of natural products from the islands; barbecued meals made on site; private beach for hotel guests only; private hiking trails, which wend through a lush jungle; sea kayaking; snorkeling; and fishing.
The property is a 10-minute boat ride from the main island of Airai and is the only commercial entity on its own piece of the island, so guests have complete privacy and autonomy. The resort has only two buildings, one housing the eight guest rooms and the other serving as a lobby and restaurant. It also has its own private beach as well as an outdoor dining area where guest are served set menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The “Bai-inspired” building that houses the eight guest rooms is made entirely of local products, including local wood; bamboo; interior walls that are designed with banana mat and pandanus mat; and a roof layered with “Tuechl” (a Palauan word for Nipa Leaves). Suited for no more than two guests per room, each of the guest rooms was designed so that clients can take in the fresh island air and observe the stars during the evenings.
Room rates are priced from $150 per night with a $50 surcharge per person for meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
