American Airlines Launches New Route; Offers PromotionMay 1, 2009 By: Jena Tesse Fox
American Airlines will launch a daily nonstop route between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Madrid-Barajas International Airport (MAD) this afternoon. The flight departs from DFW today at 5:30 p.m. CDT and arrives in Madrid at 9:55 a.m. local time. This route lays the groundwork for future network enhancements on American and could bring a bevy of tourists and business travelers to both regions, a welcome boost in the current economic climate.
This route will serve two key business hubs—the two cities combined are home to nearly three-dozen Fortune 500 companies. On the leisure side, Madrid and other highly traveled destinations such as Barcelona and Seville contribute to Spain’s status as the second most visited country in Europe.
The route provides DFW and connecting points with a convenient new link to the Spanish capital and many other destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia. In fact, this flight makes DFW the western-most U.S. airport with nonstop service to Madrid, saving time for North Texas travelers who previously had to travel to the East Coast on a connection flight to reach Madrid. In addition, the service from DFW, which was the third busiest airport in the world in 2008, is expected to generate more than $100 million for the North Texas economy annually, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
American is offering a special AAdvantage promotion on the new route between DFW and Madrid, offering up to 10,000 AAdvantage bonus miles for round trips booked through May 31, for travel between May 1 and May 31. Customers can earn 10,000 bonus miles in Business Class and 5,000 bonus miles in economy class. AAdvantage members should go to www.aa.com/offers and register before travel, as well as obtain further details and restrictions on the offer.
