AMResorts' Dominican Gems

Gems at Cap Cana

With the addition of Gems at Cap Cana, AMResorts will boost its presence in the Dominican Republic to 30 properties by 2012; here, the company’s Zoetry at Punta Cana

We heard rumblings all through 2009 about AMResorts taking over the Cap Cana development in the Dominican Republic.

It finally happened last month.

By 2012, AMResorts, a company with all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, will have 30 resorts with more than 10,000 rooms, including 10 resorts and 3,300 rooms in the Dominican Republic alone.

AMResorts’ aggressive plans include setting up its Gems at Cap Cana, a resort complex of four new luxury resorts at an estimated $400 million. Zoetry Gems at Cap Cana, Secrets Gems at Cap Cana, Now Gems at Cap Cana and Now Preferred Gems at Cap Cana will have a combined 1,100 suites and create 6,000 new jobs. The all-new properties are slated to open late 2012.

Here’s what you need to know about the four new properties that will appear in Punta Cana in the next few years.

The Gems

The Gems at Cap Cana will also house The Promenade, which will encompass more than 148,000 square feet of retail and recreational space, including a 30,677-square-foot convention center, a spa with a hydrotherapy area, a 20,000-square-foot casino, gourmet restaurants and lounges, retail collection featuring boutiques, an Explorer’s Club for Kids and an artist’s square.

Zoetry Gems at Cap Cana

This property will have 200 luxurious beachfront suite accommodations. Like all Zoetry products, the resort will specialize in romantic and holistic experiences. Book this one for affluent couples getting married abroad, going on a honeymoon or seeking a simple, quiet retreat. Guests can also opt for the ultra luxury, all-inclusive Endless Privileges vacation concept.

Secrets Gems at Cap Cana

This comes with an extra measure of romance and sensuality in a luxury setting. The property’s 350 suites have 24-hour room service. Although the resort is similar to Zoetry, its pricing is a bit lower. Guests can immerse themselves in Secrets Resorts & Spas Unlimited-Luxury concept, which includes all meals in multiple gourmet restaurants, premium beverages in lounges and unlimited day and evening activities.

Now Gems at Cap Cana

This resort will have 350 suites with modern in-room conveniences and entertainment. The suites will be complemented by impressive amenities and exquisite beaches along the Caribbean Sea. Book this for couples seeking high-end luxury. Whereas the Zoetry products exude classic elegance and luxury, the Now products are more chic.

Now Preferred Gems at Cap Cana

In the 200 suites at this resort, extras include personalized check-in and checkout; full living rooms and enhanced bathrooms; upgraded bath and bed amenities; free in-room Internet access; upgraded minibar and room-service menu; and Preferred Club lounge access, including complimentary Continental breakfast, afternoon tea and evening hors d’oeuvres and beverages. The two Now products are similar, except the amenities are a notch up at the Now Preferred.
