El Al Sells Ancillaries Via Sabre

Travel agents can book pre-paid baggage, pet transfers and unaccompanied minors on El Al via Sabre Travel Network. Seat reservations will follow later this year, Sabre reports.

David Gross, Sabre’s senior vice president of Global Supplier Distribution said the sale of ancillary services, such as pre-paid baggage and pet transfers, is an extremely valuable revenue stream for airlines.

“The core of our business is to provide a global travel marketplace where suppliers can efficiently sell products in order to maximize sales, revenue and customer loyalty. Combining more sales and revenue opportunities for suppliers with more choices for consumers and the travel agents who serve them is beneficial for everyone in the chain," he noted.

“The sale of ancillaries through this marketplace generates important cost savings for both agencies and airlines. By using one platform to sell multiple products an airline can significantly reduce its IT costs. On the other hand, front-line travel consultants can improve their efficiency and customer service levels by being able to book and fulfill tickets and ancillaries together," Gross said.

El Al already has a multi-year content agreement in place with Sabre, and now joins a growing list of airlines, including Finnair, Alitalia, US Airways and Air France-KLM, to offer ancillary services and bundled fares through Sabre.
