Explora Lauches Smartphone Rental Service

smartphoneExplora reports the availability of its smartphone rental service for international travelers visiting the United States. For a flat-rate of $8 per day, Explora’s communication and travel guide solution eliminates the complexities and high costs associated with international roaming, the company says.

Explora says it delivers Google Nexus 5 smartphones, which include unlimited nationwide calling, text messaging and 4G data. Each Explora smartphone includes special travel offers and benefits from more than 40 pre-loaded apps that make-up Explora’s “Ultimate Travel Companion” service, Explora says.

Pre-loaded apps include Facebook, Google Maps, Skype, Expedia, TripAdvisor and Yelp, and the first special offer is from Taxi Magic, where Explora customers receive $10 off their first cab fare.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world and the #1 issue is always communication and navigation. Explora solves these problems through a convenient and cost-effective smartphone rental service,” said Raj Patel, founder and CEO of Explora. “We believe global communication and data connectivity should be ubiquitous for travelers, which is why we started Explora - a company created by travelers for travelers.”

Sent directly to a specified hotel or residential address in the U.S., Explora is waiting for travelers when they arrive. Upon departure, they simply return the device by pre-paid return envelope.

Citing Juniper Research, Explora notes roaming globally will account for $57 billion in revenue for telecommunications companies this year, and that number is expected to rise to $90 billion by 2018. About one-third of those revenues are derived from data roaming fees, rising to 50 percent over the next four years.

“That’s a lot of money coming straight out of a traveler’s pocket,” added Patel. “Valuable dollars Explora saves travelers that could be used to enjoy their visit in the U.S. or even plan for their next trip.”
