Travelport and Germanwings Partner on E-Ticket Technology

April 20, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent

Travelport has announced a new airline information-technology services partnership with Germanwings, the growing low-cost carrier owned by Deutsche Lufthansa AG and based in Cologne, Germany.

Germanwings has implemented the Travelport ETDBase, a leading e-ticket database hosting service in use by airlines globally to store and manage electronic ticket data for online and interline e-ticketing.

For the first time, the Travelport ETDBase gives Germanwings the ability to accept electronic tickets plated by Lufthansa Airlines and its accredited travel agencies for travel on Germanwings-operated flights.

“Germanwings is extremely satisfied with the speed and expertise with which Travelport brought us to market with this service,” said Ognjen Zeric, vice president, e-commerce, sales and distribution, Germanwings. “In today’s environment, proven e-ticket technologies are critical to partnerships, productivity, ROI and customer service. For this class of technology, we chose to partner with a very capable provider that has a leading global interline and online hub already in place.”

“Travelport is pleased to provide Germanwings an advanced e-ticket database hosting solution that will scale to their needs as the airline grows and expands its partnerships throughout Europe and worldwide,” said Kevin Ficco, vice president, Travelport Airline IT Solutions.

Airlines can rapidly and efficiently implement e-ticketing, and increase partnerships and alliances through the Travelport ETDBase, said Travelport, because it is more cost efficient for airlines than building their own databases, making interline connections a simple process for airlines, yet allowing them to maintain control over their own interline agreements.
