Accor Asia Pacific is on record as showing faith in the long term tourist potential of Thailand, which has been rocked back on its heels by domestic crises and the worldwide economic downturn. It is also putting its money where its mouth is with a significant slate of Thailand hotel projects.

Four Bangkok projects the company is opening with the Fico Group include: the Mercure Samui Fenix, formerly known as Samui Park, opening in the third quarter of 2009; the 380-room Novotel Bangkok Fenix Ploenchit, set to open in 2010; the 225-room Novotel Bangkok Fenix Silom, formerly known as the Silom Plaza Hotel, under renovation and scheduled to join the Accor network in 2010; and the 166-room Hotel Muse, to be completed in 2011.

Accor will also open seven Thailand properties under the Novotel, Mercure and ibis brands. The Novotel Bangkok Platinum, Novotel Phuket Kamala Bay, Mercure Samui Buri, All Seasons Samui Chaweng, ibis Bangkok Nana, ibis Kata Phuket and ibis Krabi are all scheduled to open by 2011. These 11 projects will extend Accor's existing Thai portfolio to 39 hotels and resorts.
