Taboo to "Tat Up" in Thailand

While it may be the hip thing to do for young Americans to flock to Thailand and "tat" themselves up with meaningful religious symbols, Thailand's Culture Ministry says tourists should be banned from the practice because it is culturally insensitive, according to the Associated Press.

Culture Minister Niphit Intharasombat is reporting that complaints have been registered in his office from residents. In a statement, the minister said that "foreigners see these tattoos as a fashion..they do not think of respecting religion, or they may not be aware [that it is insensitive]."
