Thailand's Booming Health Tourism Industry

In 2004, the Royal Thai Government developed a strategy to make Thailand the medical hub of Asia. It seems their plan was a success.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Department of Export Promotion announced Friday that an estimated two million medical tourists will arrive in Thailand for its healthcare services in 2010. In 2008, Research and Markets reported that Thailand was ahead of all other Asian countries in terms of medical examinations and treatments for international tourists, generating an estimated $6 billion for Thailand. Maybe this is because healthcare in Thailand is a staggering one fifth of the cost that it is in the U.S. or Europe.

Thailand is prepared to meet this growing demand. In fact, the Josef Woodman, CEO of Health Travel Media just released a guidebook detailing Thailand's international hospitals, health travel agents, nearby recovery and guest accommodations and spas, titled Patients Beyond Borders: Thailand Edition.
