Official statements from Bahamas hotels have been trickling in Friday morning and so far none have reported any significant damage after the destination was pummeled by Hurricane Irene.
There does not seem to appear to be any serious damage to Abaco Beach Resort in Marsh Harbour, Abacos, Bahamas, post-Hurricane Irene.
Guests and staff remained safe, secure and dry during the massive hurricane that hovered over the resort yesterday. This weekend engineers and surveyors will take a professional look at structures including the docks, which are described as “looking fine.” The hurricane caused minor damage to the resort’s exterior and landscape, with some tree and solar panel damage. Although Hurricane Irene disrupted the outbound/inbound Marsh Harbour flight schedules, flight service to/from Marsh Harbor is scheduled to resume by Saturday.
The resort is open for business, guests and anyone needing to be in Abaco this next week, while clean up continues. The resort will offer a limited menu and limited staff service until September 1, when the resort will resume full service in time for Labor Day weekend.
Meanwhile, Atlantis is currently open and operational and will welcome new arrivals today.
After completing an assessment this morning of its facilities and property on Paradise Island, Kerzner International reports that the effects on Atlantis have been minimal – with mostly landscaping affected. Clean-up efforts have been on-going since early this morning and we expect most facilities to be open by the end of today.
The One&Only Ocean Club sustained slightly more disruption to the landscaping and grounds. Cleanup at the Ocean Club is expected to last through the weekend and The Ocean Club will begin accepting arrivals on Sunday.
