Bahamas Resort Offers New "Barefoot" Booking CategoryOctober 13, 2011 By: Joe Pike
Kamalame Cay, a barefoot luxury getaway in The Bahamas, recently announced a series of new developments and initiatives under the new creative and executive direction of David Hew and Michael King.
In addition to an overhaul of in-room services and amenities (including the shift to Molton Brown’s Lili Pili, Seamoss and Blissful Templetree bathroom products), the completion of a new deep-water marina and new elevated Sunset Bar on the south side of the Cay, they are also introducing a new ‘Barefoot’ booking category for the 2012 season with rates starting as low as $350 per night.
“The idea behind this is to launch a new product for the customers of this new economy,” says David Hew, in a written statement. “The Barefoot guest will still experience the island’s unique charm and environment while saving up to $150 a night.”
Barefoot rates have a minimum three-night stay and include complimentary cheese and crackers on arrival, daily afternoon cookie delivery and use of snorkelling equipment, sea kayaks, beach cruiser bikes and tennis courts.
Another new initiative will focus on protecting the eco-system by joining and supporting BREEF and local conservationists in the ongoing fight against lionfish, one of the worst oceanic threats today in Atlantic and Caribbean waters.
The gift shop has also been completely revamped and now features a number of new designers and clothing lines as well signature Kamalame apparel and accessories as well as a variety of local crafts and artwork from the the Andros community including traditional Androsian baskets, batiks and honey. The shop now carries the Manuel Canovas Resort Line from Paris with a selection of sheer kaftans, bathing suits, silk tops, sarongs and hats in the distinctive and bold prints for which the designer is known as well as Island Company (from Palm Beach), Lotty B (from Mustique) and Strongboalt Swimwear, a new line of men's luxury swimwear.
