It may be end of summer, but Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA is getting prepared for fun and fright with the return of Knott’s Halloween Haunt, an annual eerie extravaganza.
Opening Friday, September 23, Knott’s 2011 Halloween Haunt will run for 28 horrifying nights as the 160-acre theme park closes at 5:30 p.m. to become Knott’s Scary Farm. The park gets spooked up with 13 mazes, seven shows, four scare zones, and 1,000 roaming monsters throughout the entire park.
Three new mazes will make their debut this year. They are:
Delirium
In the deep recesses of the mind, lies the hellish wasteland of Delirium, a place so gruesome that one’s imagination fails to comprehend the horrors. Illusion and paranoia will be visitors’ only anchors to reality.
Invasion Beneath
Details are sketchy but eyewitnesses report that the Calico Mine Ride has been invaded by extremely hostile creatures of unknown origin through a large fissure in the earth’s core. The military has just infiltrated the mountain to try and rescue the survivors and combat the violent attacks. Stay tuned.
ENDGAMES: Warriors of the Apocalypse
With the world as mankind knows it gone, survivors in this barren desert have scavenged to rebuild society. In this new era, the rich and the powerful have turned all others into slaves for sport. Enter the post-apocalyptic arena where gladiators are forced to battle to their deaths as entertainment.
This year’s Scare Zones expand the popular “Ghost Town,” with the addition of “Gypsy Camp.” For entertainment, there are many twisted show choices. The new “Haunt Wonders of Technology” in Bird Cage Theatre will spotlight some favorite mechanical and automated friends from past Halloween haunts.
Various add-on packages can extend guests’ scare. A Pre-Scare Dinner Special has a Knott’s V.I.P Boo-ffet dinner followed by early entry into Halloween Haunt before it opens to the public. It costs $24 and does not include admission tickets. This offer is available only to Halloween Haunt ticket holders with advance dinner reservations. Reservations can be made at www.knotts.com.
A VIM (Very Important Monster) Escorted Tour features event admission and front of the line access to Haunt attractions. Prices are $2,000 for one to 6 guests and includes a personal escort. A one-week advance notice is required. Call (714) 220-5298.

For the younger set, “Snoopy’s Costume Party,” a daytime, non-scare celebration, has shows, activities and trick-or-treating all geared for kids ages 3-11. It is on weekends October 1-30 and is included with regular park admission.
Not recommended for children under 13, Knott’s Halloween Haunt runs through October 31. Event hours are 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. It is a special ticket event.
