Three Disney Parks to Stay Open 24 Hours to Kick Off Monstrous Summer

Disney Magic KingdomInspired by the upcoming Disney—Pixar comedy, Monsters University, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort will kick off a Monstrous Summer and start the family travel season by keeping three theme parks open for 24 hours straight. Over Memorial Day Weekend, the Magic Kingdom Park in Florida, and Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in California will stay open from 6 a.m., May 24 to 6 a.m., May 25, 2013, local time. Only select attractions, entertainment and services will be available, and valid theme park admission will be required. Admission is subject to capacity, and restrictions and change may occur without notice.

All three parks will feature limited-edition specialty merchandise, food and beverage offerings, plus other surprises throughout the entire day (and night). Especially for the event, for example, the huge sphere of Spaceship Earth has been transformed from the Disney Parks icon to the DisneyPixar "Eye-con," becoming a 180-foot-tall, fully animated one-eyed monster, Mike Wazowski.

In Florida, the Magic Kingdom will feature a Monsters University theme where Mike and Sulley will be the Grand Marshals of the "Celebrate a Dream Come True" day parade. They will also make appearances in Tomorrowland. Other entertainment throughout the day and night will include characters in their pajamas in Town Square during the late night and early morning, and late-night dance parties in and around the courtyard of Cinderella Castle.

In California, entertainment will include a Monsters University "TLT Monstrous" Dance Club, Star Wars characters in Tomorrowland, and a late-night Character Pajama Party in Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland. Additionally, the new Fantasy Faire Royal Theatre at Disneyland will become a Royal Dance Hall late at night with a live band and dancing. Monsters University "Dorms" will debut in Hollywood Land and a new Monsters University float will lead the Pixar Play Parade.

Walt Disney World Monstrous Summer includes new offerings in all four parks. This is the first summer for New Fantasyland, the large expansion in the Magic Kingdom that opened in December, as well as the first summer for guests to experience the new Fantasy Faire with Disney Princesses at Disneyland, and the new offerings of Cars Land and Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure. Other new offerings at Walt Disney World Resort this summer include an interactive "Pirates Adventure" game at Magic Kingdom, the newly re-imagined Test Track at Epcot, Wilderness Explorers at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and the Disney Junior show, featuring Sofia The First and Doc McStuffins at Disney's Hollywood Studios. California will also introduce "Mickey and the Magical Map" stage show.
