The Rainforest Alliance, an international sustainability organization, has developed the virtual SmartLodge, an interactive hotel room. Created with support from the Inter-American Development Bank’s Multilateral Investment Fund, the room's clickable items open up to features on simple steps that tourism companies and travelers can take to increase sustainability.
Near a national park, the virtual SmartLodge is situated in a nature-rich environement, overlooking an active volcano. By clicking on items throughout the room, like a lamp or garbage bin, visitors can watch short videos or read about how sustainable tourism benefits biodiversity and communities.
