Pleasant Holidays Looks to Offer Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago for 2016October 30, 2014 By: Joe Pike
|Pleasant Holidays is looking to offer Hait in 2016|
Fresh off the delivery of Pleasant Holidays' 2015/2016 Caribbean brochure, Travel Agent chatted with Jack E. Richards, Pleasant Holidays' president and CEO, and already got the skinny on some possible Caribbean destinations the tour operator would like to add for the 2016/2017 brochure.
Pleasant Holidays, which recently added Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for the 2015/2016 brochure, is seriously considering adding both Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago to its portfolio of Caribbean islands.
Haiti is especially intriguing since Pleasant's desire to add the destination is a clear indicator that Haiti's plans to become a big tourist destination in the Caribbean are back on track following the 2010 earthquake. The devastating eathquake not only claimed thousands of lives, but also haulted a major tourism push Hait planned to make to the U.S.
"We would really like to offer Haiti, but we really need to make sure they are ready," Richards says of the destination's ongoing efforts to make a huge push to the American tourism market.
Richards says plans call for someone at Pleasant Holidays to scout the island in 2015 to assess Haiti's progress.
"We are just now looking into (having someone assess the island)," says Richards. "So, probably for 2016 we should be ready to offer it and the same with Trinidad and Tobago."
Travel Agent was told that agents should be receiving Pleasant Hoplidays' 2015/2016 Caribbean brochure soon. Pleasant Holidays is one of the leading travel companies to the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, South Pacific, U.S. cities and cruise vacations, serving more than 10 million travelers since 1959.
