Small-group expedition specialists Peter Sommer Travels has always offered travelers a variety of tour options among ancient sites in Turkey, Greece, Italy, Croatia and Great Britain. Now, the seasoned tour operator is expanding their horizons with its new, first-time ever tour of its UK home base with the Exploring Hadrian’s Wall: Romans, Reivers and Romantics tour.

Exploring Hadrian’s Wall: Romans, Reivers and Romantics is an eight-day exploration of the beauty and history of the English region, departing July 8, 2017. The tour will be led by historian Paul Beston and company founder Peter Sommer. Beston studied Ancient History at King’s College in London, has lectured at King’s and Royal Holloway in London, has acted as a historical adviser for TV including shows such as HBO’s Fire from Heaven and is currently teaching Classics in Hertfordshire.

Wall Country is a warm and welcoming countryside with myriad views, from medieval market towns to gentle farmland and craggy rocks with tumbled Roman stones that give way to views of thick woods and wild loughs. The ruins of the Wall have become the homes of farmers, strongholds of lords, hide-outs of thieves and the building material of churchmen. Guests will also learn about Reivers: raiders along the Anglo-Scottish border from the late 13th century to the beginning of the 17th century, both Scottish and English that raided the entire Border country without regard to victim’s nationalities.

Prices start at $3,245 per person double and include full board accommodation in a four star hotel and a 14th century fortified castle, airport transfers on the first and last day of the tour, minibus travel, entrance fees and tips and excursions with expert guides.

Exploring Hadrian’s Wall is just the first of a variety of UK tours set to be unveiled in the coming months, according to Peter Sommer. For more information on future itineraries and current tours, call 855-443-3027, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.petersommer.com
