ITB Berlin Highlights LGBT Travel

More than a dozen exhibitors showcased emerging trends and produces in LGBT travel at a display pavilion at this year’s ITB Berlin, which took place March 7 – 11.

The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association formed the central part of the pavilion. For the first time the Brazilian Tourist Board Embratur had its own stand in the LGBT travel section, and the tour operator Dertour presented the first edition of its Gay Travel catalogue. Other exhibitors from Greece, Mexico, Portugal and Poland also celebrated their debuts. At the Vienna Gay Café, visitors had the chance to explore LGBT travel in Vienna and sample Viennese coffee specialties.

On Friday, March 9, a panel discussion entitled “Gay & Lesbian Tourism: Driver of Structural Change in Destinations?” discussed the cultural, social and economic impact of LGBT travel on a destination. On Saturday, March 10, the Queer Tango presented on the stand of Argentina’s Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
