The 11th Annual Global Travel & Tourism Summit Kicks Off

May 19, 2011 By: Meagan Drillinger

The 11th Global Travel & Tourism Summit kicked off this week, welcoming over 1,000 delegates from about 65 countries to Las Vegas. A Welcome Dinner and Show, held at the Aria Resort & Casino, headlined the opening festivities.

Some of the key issues to be discussed during the Summit were addressed during the AGM yesterday. Japan is in full force at this year's summit, with a 46-member delegation in attendance. Members of the Summit are pledging their support to Japan to fuel the recovery of the nation's travel and tourism trade. Japan is going full steam ahead with its plans to host the Summit in Tokyo in 2012.

Other popular issues at this year's event will be visas, taxation, human resource and infrastructure constraints.

"Despite the trauma in Japan and the difficulties in the Middle East, all the forecasts nevertheless point to a strong increase in Travel & Tourism demand over the next ten years," David Scowsill, WTTC President & CEO, told the media at the opening press conference. "WTTC will work hard, in co-operation with industry partners and the public sector, to ensure that we can manage this growth."
