New flights to Europe and beyond lead this week’s air travel news.
This week British Airways announced a new nonstop flight between Charleston and London Heathrow. The twice-weekly flight, slated to start in April 2019, marks the first transatlantic passenger flight from both the Lowcountry and the State of South Carolina, the airline said. The airline will operate Boeing Dreamliner 787-800 on the new route.
Also this week Air France - KLM announced plans for its 2018 - 2019 winter season, which will see a capacity increase of 2.5 percent. In the United States the airline will continue to serve Seattle with three weekly flights, while it will increase its frequencies to Detroit and New York to seven and 28 weekly flights, respectively. KLM will also an additional weekly flight to Minneapolis, for a total of four.
Delta this week announced a new route from Boston to Edinburgh, Scotland, starting next summer. The new nonstop flight will represent the eight nonstop transatlantic destination from Boston on Delta and its partners during the 2019 summer season. Boeing 757 aircraft will operate the flight.
Delta also announced this week a new flight to Ontario, Canada, from its Atlanta hub. Delta will offer one daily flight beginning April 22 and add a second flight beginning June 9, 2019, on Boeing 737-900ER aircraft.
Finally, in distribution news, this week Travelport signed a renewed and long-term partnership with India’s Jet Airways. The airline has signed a long-term supplier agreement with Travelport that will be effective from April 2019 and enable online and offline travel agencies around the world to shop, book and manage itineraries for leisure and business travelers using the airline's network and codeshare alliances.
