Onsite: Hertz Expands Environmental Initiatives

NEW YORK-The Hertz Corporation on Thursday announced the continued expansion of its environmental initiatives, which includes adding 3,400 Toyota Prius hybrids to its fleet by 2008 through a $68 million investment. The announcement was made at the American Museum of Natural History and included an appearance by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "Hertz is setting an example by upping its stock of hybrid cars," said Bloomberg. "We want to make sure the Big Apple is the Green Apple." Toward that, Bloomberg said within five years all yellow taxis would be hybrids. Hertz also made a $250,000 donation to New York City Environmental Initiatives and also said it was adding 100 hybrids to its Manhattan rental fleet. "We continue to add low-emission, higher-mileage cars," said Hertz chairman and CEO, Mark Fissora. "There is pent up demand for it."
