Three Potential Buyers for Air Jamaica

According to the Jamaica Observer, the government is now in talks with three investors to offload national airline Air Jamaica by the self-imposed deadline of March 31. The only details released about the three potential buyers however is that they are from three different geographic regions.

Travel Agent has been tracking this story since last year including a sit-down interview with Bruce Nobles, president and CEO of Air Jamaica. In that interview, Nobles told us Air Jamaica had not ruled out eliminating some of its weaker markets. Surely enough, about one month later, the airline did in fact wipe out four markets. The victims are Atlanta, Los Angeles, Grand Cayman and Miami while Air Jamaica has also discontinued service between Jamaica and Barbados and between Jamaica and Grenada. All of these moves will be effective as of February 26.
