Agents' 2012 Air Sales Up 4.8 Percent

airlineThe consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies increased 4.85 percent year-over-year in the first eight months of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, and 11.6 percent over the same period in 2010, according to ARC.

From January through August 2012, ticket sales totaled $60 billion, compared to $57.2 billion in 2011 and $53.8 billion in 2010.

ARC reports year-to-date passenger segments for the first eight months of 2012 increased slightly by 0.24 percent - at 253.9 million segments, compared to 253.3 million in 2011 - while reflecting a 2.28 percent decrease from the same period in 2010. Ticket transactions between January and August 2012 also increased somewhat by 0.22 percent over the same period in 2011, while down by 1.65 percent compared to the same period in 2010, ARC said.
