ARC Air Sales Down

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) reports a 26.1 percent drop in total air sales to $5.7 billion for the month of April 2009. Year-to-date total ARC reported sales are $22.3 billion, down 24.8 percent compared to the same period of 2008.

Credit card sales declined 23.5 percent to $5.1 billion while cash sales dropped 41 percent to $637,473,126.  International fares declined 29.1 percent to $2.3 billion and domestic fares dropped 26.7 percent to $2.5 billion.

With the exception of e-ticketing (now 99.2 percent), year-to-date, 11 of the 12 categories tracked by ARC showed double digit declines. Retail locations reporting totaled 16,750, while satellite STP locations tallied 1,124. VTC location totaled 668. Average daily sales were $10,416.
