ARC Reports 16.7 Drop In Air Sales

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) reported drop of total sales in August to $5.1 billion, or 16.7 percent. Year to date sales were $44.5 for a 23 percent decline over the same period in 2008.  Total transactions hit 10,895,148, dropping 1.7 percent for August, while total taxes and fees were $716,341,112, registering a decline of 15.3 percent.

Domestic fares were $2.4 billion, showing a 15.6 percent decline and  $20.3 billion YTD, for a 22.63 percent drop. International fares hit $1.9 billion, with a decline of 18.5 percent, while YTD the  figure is $17.2  billion for a 26.5 percent drop.

ARC said 182 carriers reported. Retail locations totaled 16,434, while STP (satellite) locations totaled 1,037. VTC locations totaled 810.  Average daily sales (calendar month) were $9,106.
