David Scowsill Appointed WTTC President and CEO

Hoi An, VietnamThe World Trade & Travel Tourism Council has appointed David Scowsill as its new president and CEO, beginning November 15. Taking the place of Jean-Claude Baumgarten, Scowsill's work will continue to raise awareness of the importance of Travel & Tourism and its $5.8 trillion value to the global GDP, Scowsill said.

In his new role, Scowsill will represent the interests of Travel & Tourism’s foremost private sector enterprises to governments worldwide. Heading the organization, he will address the political, environmental, social and technological factors facing the industry, as well as in encouragin the public and private sector partnerships crucial toward building strategies and policies for future growth and success.

Speaking at WTTC’s Executive Committee meeting in New York this week, Scowsill said, “My career has been spent in Travel & Tourism, working in airline, hotel, airport, and online travel and distribution businesses. The organisation has a vital role to play in raising awareness of the true value of the industry, which accounts for 9.2 percent of global GDP."

His past experience includes private equity and venture from across the retail, consumer, technology and travel sectors, as well as in hospitality, consumer brands and airlines. Prior to joining the council, he was CEO of Opodo, Vice Chairman at Worldhotels and Regional General Manager Asia/Pacific at British Airways.
