H1N1 Virus: Hotel Group Urges Sanitiazation

April 30, 2009 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

In light of the current threat of the H1N1 influenza in Mexico and certain U.S. areas, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) is urging the industry to ensure a high level of sanitation at all times in order to minimize the possible outbreak or spread of infection.

AH&LA is encouraging hoteliers to stay informed, to develop strategies and precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of employees and guests. and to "be prepared, but not panicked."

The Centers for Disease Contorl (CDC) recommends that employees who exhibit flu symptoms should not report to work and stay home, minimizing contact with others. If flu symptoms persist or worsen, medical treatment should be sought.

As of April 27, there have been no reported cases of swine influenza found in U.S. hotels. Plans in place by federal and state health officials to immediately contain and treat the individuals afflicted by this influenza strain are being implemented.

AH&LA is providing online resources to assist the industry as well as serving as a conduit for information and advice from government and experts on this public health crisis. Direct specific inquiries to Robert Baylor at [email protected] or (202) 289-3122.
