JetBlue Slows Down for 2008

January 9, 2008 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Despite strong demand during the holiday season and a slight increase in load factor over 2006, JetBlue Airways said it would grow "more conservatively" in 2008. The low-cost carrier's December traffic rose 6.4 percent over 2006, while load factor increased just 0.9 percent, from 80.7 percent in 2006 to 81.6 percent in 2007. "However, given an uncertain economic environment and record-high fuel prices, we plan to grow more conservatively in 2008," said Dave Barger, JetBlue's CEO. "Assuming market conditions remain favorable, we expect to take advantage of continued strength in the worldwide aircraft market to manage our fleet growth and we currently plan to increase capacity between 6 and 9 percent for the full year."
