This summer, Las Vegas tourism has continued to increase, by 4.7 percent, from 3.2 million in July 2009 to more than 3.3 million this year. Increases also include average daily room rate, total room nights occupied, convention attendance and daily auto traffic, helped by an extra Saturday in July, record drive-in traffic and an increase in convention attendance.
Room inventory increased 4.9 percent. Citywide occupany went down by 0.2 percent, including hotels and motels during the weekends and midweek. Overall, the average daily room rate saw an increase of 4.8 percent from $86.23 to $90.38, and total room nights occupied increased by 4.7 percent from 3,680,512 to 3,854,527. A rise in convention attendance by 28.4 percent, to 320,527 up from 3,680,512, was aided by one new, larger show, DeafNation, as well as rotating shows, including Cisco Systems and the American Sportfishing Association. Although en/deplaned air passengers decreased by 1.1 percent, drive-in traffic increased by 4.7 percent on major highways and 2.9 percent on I-15 at the Nevada/California border.
