Marriott Announces Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa Leaders

Marriott International, Inc. today announced the advancement of its strategy to establish continental divisions in Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa with its appointment of Simon F. Cooper as president and managing director of Asia Pacific and Edwin D. Fuller to head operations and growth in the Middle East and Africa. Both Cooper and Fuller will report to Arne Sorenson, president and COO of Marriott International.

In his new position based in Hong Kong, Cooper will lead the operating performance and growth of the region, including more than 130 properties and 70 hotels under development represented by The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard and Marriott Executive Apartments brands.

Fuller will continue his role as President & Managing Director, Lodging International, and advise on the company's global growth strategy. Prior to his 38 years at Marriott, Fuller attended Wake Forest University and graduated from Boston University, where he is now a trustee and on the Board of Overseers, and the Harvard Graduate School Business advanced management program.

Formerly president and COOr for the past nine years, to be succeeded by Herve Humler, Cooper joined The Ritz-Carlton after three years as president of Marriott Lodging Canada and Senior Vice President of Marriott Lodging for Canada and New England. Prior to this, he was an executive with Delta Hotels. Born and educated in England, Cooper earned an MBA from the University of Toronto and received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from Canada's University of Guelph earlier this year.
