PATA, Visa Study Attitudes of Potential Travelers

April 25, 2006 By: Camie Foster Travel Agent

The Pacific Asia Travel Association and Visa International Asia Pacific have released a survey that examines the attitudes of people from 10 key markets who are considering travel to Asia. The report, "Asia Travel Intentions Survey 2006," says there is an increasing willingness to travel to Asia than there was in a similar survey conducted a year ago. The new survey pinpoints three areas of concern: 69 percent of participants said that travel-advisory warnings make them less likely to travel; 58 percent said that the potential for terrorism makes them less likely to travel; and an identical 58 percent said that negative media reports make them less likely to travel. The survey also found that potential travelers' concerns—and misconceptions—about the spread of avian flu are impacting travel. About a third of participants didn't know which areas were affected, and more than 20 percent believed that areas with no reported cases were affected.
