Recently Trending - Cheap Spring Destinations for American Travelers

chartThe HotelPriceIndex™ (HPI) tracks the latest in popularity and price hotel trends by analyzing real prices paid per room by Hotels.com costumers. Recent data suggests the most desirable spring domestic destinations for under $140 per night are as follows:

San Diego, CA – This city ranks number six in the most sought after destinations of American travelers, and number eight for international travelers. The city’s main attractions include the famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, and the Gaslamp District, known for hosting blow-out events like Mardi Gras Gaslamp and the Street Scene Music Festival.  The nearby Torrey Pines State Natural Park Reserve is ripe for exploration and water sport indulgences.

San Antonio, TX – Home to the Alamo and The River Walk, a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonia River alive with shops and restaurants, recently broke into the top ten most popular domestic destinations.  The gourmet cuisine scene is arriving here, helped by hotspots like Biga on the Banks, named one of Esquire Magazine’s 50 best U.S. restaurants, and the booming nearby wine region.

Portland, ME – An increasingly popular east coast destination, Portland is uniquely tourist friendly because of its extensive pedestrian and bike path network.  Similar to the identically named west coast city, Portland has a burgeoning food truck and craft beer market.

Charleston, SC – As its popularity steadily grew, hotel room rates rose in Charleston by 15% in 2012.  The city is home to a multitude of pre-Civil War architecture and historical landmarks, as well as an emerging theatre district, with venues like the Dock Street Theatre in the historic French Quarter.
