Stat: 2014 Air Ticket Sales Ahead of 2013

ARC reports the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies rose 5.15 percent year-over-year in the first seven months of 2014 compared to the same period last year, totaling $56 billion versus $53.3 billion in 2013. Sales for July 2014 were up 5.2 percent at $7.5 billion compared to July 2013 at $7.2 billion, ARC said.

Ticket transactions through July 2014 increased 2.65 percent over the same period in 2013 to 89.8 million. Year-to-date passenger segments increased 2.82 percent to 221.6 million, compared to 215.3 million in 2013, ARC reports.

Carriers reporting totaled 200, retail locations hit 13,000 while STP Locations reporting totaled 356, while VTC Locations were pegged at 1,652. Average daily sales (calendar month) reported in at $16,196.

ARC said the results based on monthly sales data ending July 31, 2014, from 13,356 U.S. retail and corporate travel agent locations, satellite ticket printing offices and online travel agencies. Results do not include sales of tickets purchased directly from airlines. Total sales are equal to the total amount paid for a ticket, which includes taxes and fees, ARC said.
