Fly.com has unveiled a slate of new research ranking the average cost of flights to popular fall vacation spots in 2013 against 2014 prices. With the exception of Dallas, the only destinations experiencing cheaper fares this fall are located in the western United States.
Hawaii offers the best deals for the Thanksgiving and post-Thanksgiving travel periods. In contrast, Florida's continued popularity over the fall has played a role in rising fares. For instance, flights to Tampa between Dec. 1-21 cost 25 percent more in 2014 compared with last year.
Fly.com examined data collected from more than one million user searches and extracted domestic flights for the following travel windows in 2013 and 2014: Sept. 22 – Nov. 20 (pre-Thanksgiving), Nov. 21-30 (Thanksgiving), and Dec. 1-21 (post-Thanksgiving). The study period included all searches conducted in 2013 and 2014 between Aug. 1 and Sept. 21.
