Stat: Travel Agent Air Ticket Sales Up - Again

ARC reports that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies rose 4.73 percent year-over-year in the first five months of 2014 compared to the same period last year, totaling $40.8 billion versus $39 billion in 2013.

Ticket transactions through May 2014 increased 1.89 percent over the same period in 2013 to 65.4 million, ARC reports. Year-to-date passenger segments increased 2.6 percent to 151 million compared to 147.2 million in 2013.

ARC notes the results based on monthly sales data ending May 31, 2014 from 13,405 U.S. retail and corporate travel agent locations, satellite ticket printing offices and online travel agencies.

Results do not include sales of tickets purchased directly from airlines and  total sales are equal to the total amount paid for a ticket, which includes taxes and fees.
