The American Affluence Research Center recently released a survey that reveals that affluent Americans have a positive 12-month outlook for the economy, stock market and personal wealth. Slightly more than 12 million households were surveyed, which represent the top 10 percent wealthiest households in America based on net worth as determined by the Federal Reserve Board

These households plan to spend their money in different ways. This holiday season 80 percent of the affluent population say they will spend the same amount or more on holiday gifts this year versus 2013. When asked what they plan to buy with their discretionary income, 42 percent of people cited durable goods, local experiences or travel.

More than half of those who plan on traveling in the next 12 months will be returning to a favorite destination. Fifty-two percent plan to use reward points to purchase or upgrade air, hotel or cruise reservations, and 40 percent will travel with children or grandchildren.
