Survey Finds Kids Think Parents Need Spring Break

Alberta Falls, Charlotte-Concord Wolf Lodge Water Park, courtesy of Great Wolf LodgeTravelocity's survey revealed that clients' kids have a mind toward what makes a good vacation. Conducted by ORC International from Feb. 25-28 on behalf of the indoor waterparks company, Great Wolf Resorts, Inc., the study polled children aged six to 14 about their opinions about Spring Break, to discover that family ranks high among kids' priorities.

During the first-ever Great Wolf Kids Poll, a national sample included 251 preteens of 126 males and 125 females living in private households in the continental U.S., to discover that more than 90 percent think it is important for their parents to have a Spring Break so they can be away from their jobs and just have fun. A third of those polled said they find it "very annoying" when their parents are always on their cell phones or laptops while on vacation, ahead of bad weather and getting stuck in traffic, which were ranked "annoying" to "very annoying."

Also among kids' priorities was a place where they can spend time with family. A majority of 85 percent said it's "very important" when choosing the ideal Spring Break vacation spot to pick a place where they can spend time with the whole family. Kids favored a destination with a variety of activities and adventures (61 percent) and a destination where they can interact and play with other kids their age (56 percent). Nearly half of those surveyed (45 percent) ranked an indoor destination that doesn't depend on nice weather as "very important."

"Parents are continually focused on finding vacation options at a good value, but this survey illustrates that kids really value the family aspect of the family vacation," says Leslie Hutton, member of the Ask-A-Mom panel for Great Wolf Resorts. "That's a great tip for parents as they make travel plans this year."
